Wednesday Vigil

Every Wednesday a group of us from the greater Burlington community sits in silence for an hour across the street from the ICE Building at 188 Harvest Lane in Williston in order to bear witness to the actions taking place in the building. All are invited to join us for the hour, or any portion thereof. Bring a bench, chair or cushion–whatever enables you to sit comfortably. We will be there rain, shine or any kind of weather. The purpose of the vigil is to draw attention to the challenging energy of these times––energy which manifests in many ways, including the suffering caused by ICE in our community, in our world, and in our hearts. Our aspiration is not to judge the people who work in the building, but to change the energy that leads to present attitudes and policies.  What does that mean about signage? Recently we have simply put up a sign which identifies 188 Harvest Lane as the ICE Federal Data Center. If you choose to bring a sign, we hope that the message will respectfully raise questions about ICE’s policies and actions, and convey our appreciation for migrants, and their right to fair and legal treatment.
